valentine's

Let me start by saying this post really isn't about Valentine's Day at all, I just had no other title and seeing as technically it is Valentine's Day (for at least another hour and a half...) it seemed fitting. However, that now mentioned, I would like to say on the record that I hate Valentine's Day. And not even because I'm single. I've truly never liked it, even the years that I was not. Maybe at one time it wasn't so bad, but now with Hallmark and See's taking over the world, it is absolutely ridiculous. I think it's so much more special to show people you love them when it is NOT expected. Please, if you need a day set aside especially for this purpose because it's the only time you show it, the relationship isn't what it should be anyway. Anyways, now that you all think I lied about this not being a Valentine's post, I apologize because that was not my intent. I simply wanted to say that this 3 day weekend that I am spending alone in my apartment is interesting. Last night, however, was insanely fun. My best friend Kallel (Kelly Chiodo--who I'm sure I've mentioned before) came over and we had some crazy adventures. First we helped my friend Dwight get a case for his new iTouch, which took longer than it really should have. Apparently, we just get too distracted when we're together anyway. After that was accomplished and he went home, we decided to make some dinner, but not just any dinner...salmon. Yes we are gourmet, thank you for asking. Keep in mind, this was the first time I have ever even attempted any kind of fish, let alone salmon by myself. I must say I was quite proud of the outcome (pictures after the jump). So while we were shopping for ingredients, she decided we should do lemon shots. Let me tell you, I was terrified. I don't do well with lemon juice, or drinking that much in one sip. hahaha Anyway, I did eventually agree, which is when things started getting weird. I decided that if we were doing these, I wanted a cool shot glass. Keep in mind, I am currently in Utah, and not only Utah, but Logan to be exact. The chances of finding one I really liked were slim. However, I thought we could find something to settle for so we started looking. About an hour and a half later (skip the part where I tried asking an employee where they might be only to find out he was deaf--not easy to communicate when I'm retarded let me tell you), we gave up and got those little white plastic "bathroom cups." Literally, that's what the package said. It all worked out though when we eventually found them. So we came back to my apartment and started making dinner. While it was cooking, she was very good at squeezing the lemons. Yes, I admit I was impressed. After dinner and shots (video coming soon--I tried practicing with water before the lemon. Let me just say fail. EPIC fail. Wish we could have had THAT on video), we watched The Stepfather, which we got from Redbox earlier. I screamed, I jumped, I wanted to cry a little bit. Don't get me wrong, I really do like scary movies, but it's been so long since I've seen one. It was definitely good though...or maybe I just love me some Penn Badgley. I can't lie, I am a sucker for that scruffy smile. :) After that, for some reason we thought it would be a good idea to go down to the island (for those who don't know what that is I apologize, but I also can not explain). One of the worst ideas I've had because it was terrifying, and we had to turn right around. Yes, I am pretty much a wuss as of late. So we went home at around 1, which brings me to today which was rather uneventful. Although I did get to skype with my fabulous nieces tonight! I showed them the snow outside my door. I just miss them so much! I really just can't get enough of my family.

Before the oven.

I know the rice blends right in, but it was all delicious...
and I obviously did not want to do dishes. :)
